The Media and Public Relations Department of the General Directorate of Civil Defence issued the following statement:

After sustained efforts, Lebanese Civil Defence teams brought under control and extinguished the fire that broke out in the Batroun highlands, despite the rugged terrain and difficult access to the hotspots.

Crews from about ten centres took part, supported by the Second Artillery Regiment and Lebanese Army helicopters. The teams contained the flames and prevented them from spreading to the Tannourine Cedars Nature Reserve and neighbouring areas.

During the operation, a Civil Defence member was injured, suffering wounds and fractures when an old landmine left over from the war exploded. He was taken to hospital for treatment.

Civil Defence teams continued cooling and monitoring until 3 a.m., ending their mission once they had confirmed the fire was out and no hotspots remained.
