The Media and Public Relations Department of the General Directorate of Civil Defence issued the following statement:
The Director General of Civil Defence, Brigadier General Imad Khreich, took part in SIMMER Info Day 2026 in Limassol, Cyprus, as part of the SIMMER project, which aims to strengthen resilience to wildfires in the Mediterranean region.
Brigadier General Khreich joined a panel entitled “During the fire: operational readiness, suppression and technology”, alongside officials and experts from fire services, civil defence and forest management in Cyprus.
The participation was an opportunity to present Lebanon’s experience in fighting wildfires and to contribute to the discussion on strengthening operational readiness, developing coordination between the agencies concerned, sharing expertise and using technology in firefighting operations.
The discussions stressed the importance of advance coordination, sharing knowledge and expertise, defining roles and strengthening cooperation between institutions, to raise preparedness and response to wildfire risks. The SIMMER project works to strengthen cooperation among Mediterranean countries by linking scientific knowledge, field work, policies and practice.
