Hot, dry and windy weather sharply increases the risk of wildfires, especially near forests, olive groves and dry fields. Most wildfires are caused by people — and most can be prevented.
Before a fire
- Never burn waste or dry grass outdoors on hot or windy days
- Clear dry leaves, branches and weeds within 10 metres of your house
- Do not throw cigarettes from car windows
- Keep a garden hose and a bucket of water ready
If a fire starts near you
- Call 125 immediately and give your exact location
- Follow instructions from Civil Defence teams and leave early if asked to evacuate
- Close windows and doors, and move away from the direction of the wind
- Do not drive through smoke or block roads used by emergency vehicles
In any emergency, call 125 — free, from any phone, 24 hours a day.
