Heavy rain can cause sudden flooding in valleys, riverbeds, tunnels and low-lying streets. Civil Defence teams are on standby across the country throughout the winter season.
Stay safe
- Do not walk or drive through flood water — 30 cm of moving water can sweep a car away
- Avoid riverbanks, valleys and underpasses during storms
- Clear drains and gutters around your home before the rainy season
- Keep a torch, charged phone, water and essential medicines ready
- Switch off electricity if water enters your home
