Lebanon lies in an active seismic zone. Being prepared, and knowing what to do in the first seconds, can save lives.
During the shaking
- Drop to your hands and knees
- Cover your head and neck under a sturdy table, or next to an inside wall
- Hold on until the shaking stops
- Stay away from windows, balconies and heavy furniture
- Do not use lifts or run down stairs while the building is shaking
After the shaking
- Check yourself and others for injuries
- Leave the building carefully if it is damaged, and move to an open area
- Turn off gas if you smell a leak and do not light flames
- Expect aftershocks
- If someone is trapped, call 125 and tell rescuers exactly where they are
In any emergency, call 125 — free, from any phone, 24 hours a day.
